Safari
Setting Compass Learning as the homepage
- Open Safari
- Open the Compass Learning Website (enter link listed below)
- Compass Learning website should appear
- Click on “Safari” at the top of the screen
- Click on “Preferences”
- Click on “Set to Current Page”
- Click anywhere off of this window to close it
- Compass Learning should now be the home page when Safari is opened
- Close Safari and Reopen it to double check
*** This process can be used to make any website your homepage
Simply replace compass learning with your desired Page
Put the House on the Address bar in Safari
- Open Safari
- Click on “View” at the top of the screen
- Click on “Customize Address Bar”
- Drag the house icon from the window to the Safari address bar
- Drag the icon to the location that you would like it to be located
- When you release the icon it will remain where you put it
- It is suggested to remove the “+” (add bookmark) button from your address bar
- Drag the “+” icon down to the “Customize Address Bar” window and release – it will vanish and thus remove it from the address bar
EyeTV
Program Channels into EyeTV
- Open EyeTV
- Click on "Help" at the top of the screen
- Click on "EyeTV setup assistant"
- Using the drop down menu select EyeTV 200, then click next
- Place a check mark in both of the boxes, then click next
- Ignore the next window and click next to move on
- Select "Cable NTSC" in the service field
- Check the "Exhaustive Scan" box
- Click "Auto-Tune" then click next
- Allow EyeTV to scan the channels (once the scan reaches channel 100 you can stop as there are no channels beyond this)
- Click next - 2 times
- Click Finish
- Your EyeTV will now allow you to watch any and all the channels that were available during the scan.
- Channel 16 (the morning announcment channel) most always is not available and will not be added to the list of channels it will have to be manually added - see instructions below.
Add a channel to EyeTV
- Open EyeTV
- Click on "EyeTV" at the top of the screen
- Click on "Preferences"
- Click on the "Setup" tab at the top of this window
- Hold down the "Option" button on the keyboard then click "Auto Tune"
- A secret window will then appear on your screen
- In the "Add Channel" field, use the drop down menu and choose the channel you wish to add i.e. 16
- Click Ok - 2 times
- The channel you added is now available, however it will not be located in order it will be located prior to channel 2 as you scroll through the channels. You can go diectly to the channel by using the number pad on your keyboard. i.e 1, 6, enter
Entourage - Email
Resetting Your Email Account
- Resetting your email account will typically correct any problems sending or recieving emails
- Open Entourage
- Click on "Tools" at the top of the screen
- Click on "Accounts" at the bottom of the drop down menu
- Double Click on your name in the window that appears
- A window should appear that will allow you to set up your email account
- Below is a list of information that you enter on the "Edit Account" window
- Please make a note of capitalization, spacing, and spelling otherwise your email may not work properly
- Substitute your name for John Doe in the example below
- Account - John Doe
- Name - John Doe
- Email Address - john.doe@cityschools.net
- Account ID - john.doe
- POP Server - mail.cityschools.net
- Password -
- SMTP Server - mail.cityschools.net
- Place a check in both boxes on this window
- include this account ...
- save password ...
- Open the Compass Learning Website (enter link listed below)
- Enter your User Name and Password
- Click on the “Assignments” tab at the top of the screen
- Click on “Assignment Builder” in the drop down menu
- Select a subject in the box on the left
- Select your grade level in the row of numbers across the top of the page
** You will now be looking at all of the available Kindergarten level assignments that are within the Language Arts section of Compass Learning. You can scroll down using the slide bar on the right to view all of the options that are available (there should be several).
- Once you look through the available curriculum and decide on a subject for you students.
- Place a check in the box beside the activity.
- Click Add Selected Tasks
** You now have the opportunity to add additional lessons. Even from a different subject if desired. Just follow the above steps again till all of the subjects that you wish to add have been added.
- When you have selected all the assignments that you wish to add click “Complete Assignment”
- Put a title in the “Assignment Name” field
- Make sure your name is something that will give you a hint as to the assignments placed within it. (i.e. Assignments for week 3 of school , or “Printing and Phonics”
- You can also use the “Description” area to leave yourself clues about the assignments within.
**TIP: If you set up your compass Learning activities to correspond with your weekly curriculum you can simply reassign the groups of lessons next year without having to go through the entire process again.
- Fill in the Subject Field
- Select the appropriate Grade field
- Select the assignment order (sequential is the typical choice)
- “Self Select” will allow the students to jump back and forth in the lessons and many of the lessons will build upon one another. Sequential will keep the students working through the assignments in the correct order.
- Select No for “Show Resources”
- This is an option that will allow the students to print worksheets which could cut into your room account via the extra paper, toner
- Select Yes for “Assign to Students Now”
- If you want to work ahead on Compass Assignments you can pre-select assignment groups
- Select “Assign this lesson to all students
- Click Finished
I Movie
Making a Slideshow movie using my pictures
- Open IPhoto and IMovie
- Open the “library” or the specific album of pictures that you wish to use to create your movie.
- Create a new IMovie
- Drag all of the desired pictures from IPhoto to the grid of empty gray boxes in IMovie
- You can now close IPhoto
- Drag the pictures from the grid of boxes down to the top long gray box at the bottom of
- the screen (the box labeled “Drag clips here to build your project”
- Place these pictures in the order in which you wish to have them appear.
** The box along the bottom the timeline of your movie.
** If you get a picture out of line you can pull it out and then simply slide it into
the proper place for it in the timeline of pictures
- Continue adding pictures until you have all of the pictures in the timeline at their desired
- location.
- You can preview your slideshow using either the play button located just above the
- timeline bar or using the “view clip” button to the right of the play button. (this
- option gives you a better idea of finished product results.
- Save your work making sure to give it a name you will recognize.
** this file will be a quicktime film and will not play in a DVD player, see instructions below to change this to a DVD.
Adding Music to your slideshow Movie
- Open IMovie
- Open the appropriate IMovie file that you wish to add music to
- Open Itunes
- Drag and drop a song from Itunes into 1 of the 2 bottom boxes within the timeline of your
- IMovie file
- The song should appear in purple.
** slide the bar at the bottom across the screen to compare the length of your song vs. the length of your slideshow.
- If needed drag a second song or the same song a second time and place it in line behind the first song.
** you can have 2 songs playing in the background at the same time using the upper and lower timeline bar. Slide the songs left and right to adjust
start and stop times.
** Each song can be reduced in size to fit your slideshow needs
- click on the song and drag the ends together until you have the section and length that you desire.
** more than one song can be placed on the upper and lower timeline bar
- You can preview your slideshow using either the play button located just above the timeline bar or using the “view clip” button to the right of the play button. (this option gives you a better idea of finished product results.)
If the volume of your music needs to be adjusted
- Click on the song that needs to be adjusted
- Click on the “Clip” field at the bottom of the screen
- Use the Slider to adjust the volume as desired.
- Save your work making sure to give it a name you will recognize.
** this file will be a quicktime film and will not play in a DVD player, see instructions below to change this to a DVD.
Making your slideshow movie into a DVD
- Open IMovie
- Open the appropriate IMovie file that you wish to turn into a DVD
** Once this file is sent to IDVD you will not be able to edit it further.
- Look over you file once more to make sure you have a finished product.
- Click on the IDVD button on the right side of the screen
** If you wish to add chapters use the slider to position the breaks and click add chapters
- Click “Create IDVD Project”
- IDVD will open automatically
- Drag a picture from IPhoto into the Menu screen of IDVD
- Click the Circle at the bottom of the IDVD screen and insert a blank DVD
