1. What are the school’s bell times?
Salem Elementary will operate on the same bell schedule as Overall Creek, Scales, and Cason Lane. Classes will begin at 7:30a.m. and the school day will end at 2:30 p.m. The school doors open at 7:15 a.m. for students not participating in morning ESP.

2. Will there be ESP at Salem Elementary?
Yes, Salem Elementary will have a full ESP program! Before and after school childcare is available from 6:00a.m. until 7:15a.m. in the morning and from 2:30p.m. until 6:00p.m. in the afternoon, Monday through Friday. Children may stay for both morning and afternoon sessions or only attend one. Information regarding fees, class options, and attendance options are available from our Salem ESP office. 3. Does my incoming Kindergarten student have to be screened? When will that happen?
Yes, all incoming kindergarten students will take a basic screening test. When you register your student for school you will select and sig- up for a screening time. Screenings will take place on July 30th from 11:00 – 3:00 and on July 31st from 8:00 – 3:00. Screenings will last approximately 15 minutes.

4. If my child has an IEP or is in the Scholars program, will they still have access to those programs when they begin at Salem?
Salem Elementary will be providing comparable services to the Murfreesboro City School your child is transferring from, and we will work closely with your child’s current school to ensure there is a smooth transition to Salem Elementary. If you are coming to Salem from a school outside of Murfreesboro City, there is a place on the registration form to identify services your child is receiving. We will do records request to obtain the information from the school and work with you to ensure a smooth transition.

5. Is there a PTO, or can I be involved in the school?

6. How will bus transportation work?
Bus transportation will be provided for students living in the Salem Elementary transportation zone. Transportation routes for the 2019-2020 school year can be accessed on the link below. 7. Will they be putting sidewalks on Saint Andrews?
This decision regarding sidewalks is made by the city of Murfreesboro. We do not anticipate having sidewalks on Saint Andrews by the time school starts for the 2019-2020 school year.

8. Will they be widening Saint Andrews?
This decision regarding widening roads is made by the city of Murfreesboro. We do not anticipate Saint Andrews being widened by the time school starts for the 2019-2020 school year.

The main entrance for Salem Elementary will be a new access road being built off of Veteran’s Parkway.

9. Can my child walk or ride their bike to school?
Only students in 2nd – 6th grade may be walkers or bike riders, and this choice should be noted by parents on the student’s registration form under the transportation section. Students in kindergarten or 1st grade will not be allowed to walk or ride their bikes home unless they are escorted by an older sibling in 3rd – 6th grade. A student’s route home must have access to sidewalks and be free of crossing major roads where crossing guards are not present.

10. Will Salem be accepting zone waivers?
Yes, Salem Elementary will be accepting zone waiver applications for the 2019- 2020 school year for both city and county residents. Zone waiver applications can be picked up at the Murfreesboro City Schools’ Central Office located at 2552 South Church Street, Murfreesboro, TN 37127.

11. How do I register my child?
Current Murfreesboro City School’s Students zoned for Salem Elementary can log into their Skyward account to update their registration information for the 2019- 2020 school year. If you need help accessing this information, please contact your current school office.
