School Closing Information
School Closing
If at all possible, a call to close schools because of inclement weather will be made the night before the closing or before 6:00 a.m. the day of the closure. Occasionally, snow, ice, or sleet will occur right as school opens. If this is the case, parents need to stay tuned to Cable Channel 3, the network TV stations, or WGNS Radio 1450. The decision to close Murfreesboro City Schools due to inclement weather is made independent of the Rutherford County School system’s decision.
Students requiring childcare in the event of school closure MUST be signed up in our L.E.A.P. program. Please be advised that our L.E.A.P. program meets at Northfield Elementary School on Snow Days.
Inclement Weather During the School Day
In cases when a snowstorm or other inclement weather occurs during the day, the following will be observed:
§ Parents may pick up children throughout the school day at their convenience without being counted absent.
§ Buses will run at the usual times in the afternoon.
Non-Weather Related Events
If non-weather related events such as bomb threats or environmental issues were to occur during the school day, an announcement would be made on Channel 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and WGNS Radio 1450 and through our automated phone messaging system. That is why it is so important that you keep the school up to date on any changes in address and/or phone numbers.
