Hello! I am Mindy Black. This is my fourth year of teaching and my third year to teach at MNE. I believe creating art is an important part of education. However, I am not teaching my students how to become artists. My goal is for the students to become art supporters and critical thinkers. We will use art as a tool to learn higher-level thinking and problem solving skills through the Art Disciplines, which includes Production and the study of Art History, Aesthetics, Critique, and Appreciation. So, don’t worry if you don’t see finished works coming home every week.  We are definitely making art, but we are also exploring many aspects of thinking about art as we sometimes take several weeks to finish a well-planned work.  Students will also begin evaluating and choosing some art to stay here at school for an art show that you will hear more about later.  Please feel free to visit anytime, but be prepared to get a little messy!
