Inspector

Quite possibly the most valuable tool in iWeb.

If you are familiar with the Formatting Palette in Word or Powerpoint, this is the tool for you.  You can do the same tasks through the toolbar but they aren’t as easily found or organized.

Once you click the Inspector, a window opens that you can move as you work.  It has 7 buttons that are used to edit your page.  (9 in iLife ’08!)

The first button has a small globe on it.  This is where you can rename your site.  However, we do not recommend doing this because it will complicate your url.  Keeping it as Site will make publishing the site easy.

The page layout can be changed in the second button. It has a piece of paper on it.

You can change the page name, alter menu options, change how much of the page the viewer sees, and background options.

3

The third button or RSS button is not supported by our server.  A .Mac account is required to use these features.

Blogs created on our sites are one sided without RSS.  People can view our blogs but cannot respond.

Podcasts are also viewable but people cannot subscribe to them.

4

Text options are changed in the fourth button.  These options are similar to Word and Powerpoint as well.

Changing Fonts and Font color are accessed through the buttons at the bottom right corner.  Click here to see their uses.

5

The next two buttons deal with graphics.  The first has two shapes on it, a square and a circle.

This is where you can modify any shape or text box with various features.

The second button, Metrics,  has a ruler.  You can change size and positioning of your graphics.

6

Linking is the last button in the Inspector.  It has a blue circle with an arrow inside.

When inserting a link, make sure you have highlighted the text or graphic you what to be the link.

Click enable hyperlink.  Choose where you want the link to go by clicking the blue double arrow drop down box.

*Treat the bottom check box as an on/off switch for your links.  This will make it easier when you want to edit them.
