2nd Grade Computer Technology

Standard 1.0

Students will understand basic operations and concepts of technology.

Learning Expectations

Students will demonstrate an understanding of the nature and operation of

            technology systems.

Students will exhibit a proficiency in the use of technology.

Students will develop basic keying skills (alpha numeric and special

            characters) in using keyboard using the touch system.  

     __  Students will add the following terms to their vocabulary (cameras, scanner, external drives)

     __   Students will distinguish between the storage devices- disk drive, hard drive, CD-Rom, and network drives and be able to save to each of these devices

     __   Students will recognize that keys are lowercase unless the shift or Caps Lock key are used

     __   Students will use both hands simultaneously on the keyboard

     ___ Students will learn the correct placement of fingers for the home row keys and be able to use those keys accurately

      __   Students will distinguish between file and folders in a saved location

     ___   Students will practice the correct methods for maximizing and minimizing programs or documents and for shutting down or restarting the computer

     ___   Students will understand and identify the following terms as they relate to the Internet:  browser, www, homepage, keyword, attachments, imbedded files, and search

Standard 2.0

Students will understand the importance of social, ethical, and human issues associated with technology.

Learning Expectations

Students will understand the ethical, cultural, and societal issues related to

technology.

Students will practice responsible use of technology systems, information literacy, and software.

Students will develop positive attitudes toward technology uses that support lifelong learning, collaboration, personal pursuits, and productivity.

Students will discuss the term “copyright”

Standard 3

Students will use technology productivity tools.

Learning Expectations

Students will use technology tools to enhance learning, increase

productivity, and promote creativity.

Students will use productivity tools to collaborate in constructing

technology enhanced models, prepare publications, and produce other creative

works.

     ___  Students will understand and utilize the spell check feature of programs

     ___  Students will identify and follow the procedures for copying, pasting, and cutting information in programs

     __   Students will discuss privacy and safety issues as related to communication and technology in our society

     ___  Students will create and publish pictures with graphics and text using draw and paint applications to develop creative products in a variety of formats

     ___  Students will create simple slides using age appropriate software

     ___  Students will incorporate sound and graphics into multimedia presentations

     ___  Students will write paragraphs using age appropriate software

     ___  Students will copy and paste text and graphics from various media

     ___  Students will demonstrate the ability to use the spell check function

     ___  Students will work as a class to write, illustrate, and publish books using software applications using age level appropriate skills

     ___  Students will use editing tools to include tab (indent), bold, italic, underline, cut and paste, center, left, justify, and undo

     ____ Students will take a picture with a digital camera

     ___   Students will write a story or report in a word processing program and copy/paste a picture

Standard 4

Students will use technology communications tools.

Learning Expectations

Students will use telecommunications to collaborate, publish, and interact

            with peers, experts, and other audiences.

Students will use a variety of media and formats to communicate

            information and ideas effectively to multiple audiences.

Standard 5

Students will select and use appropriate technology research tools.

Learning Expectations

Students will use technology to locate, evaluate, and collect information

from a variety of sources.

Students will use technology tools to process data and report results.

Students will evaluate and select new information resources and

technological innovations based on the appropriateness for specific tasks.

     __  Students will use teacher selected Internet resources to locate, discuss, and compare information about the local community

     __  Students will explore the gathering of information using a variety of electronic resources, including, but not limited to the Internet

     __  Students will continue to explore the use of online reference tools as resources

     ___ Students will, with teacher guidance, access a website by opening a browser and utilizing teacher chosen favorites/bookmarks

     __ Students will, with teacher guidance, navigate a search engine using a keyword search to find an organized lists of results

    ___  Students will be able to recognize links on pages


Standard 6

Students will utilize technology problem-solving and decision-making tools.

Learning Expectations

Students will use technology resources for solving problems and making

informed decisions.

Students will employ technology in the development of strategies for

solving problems in the real world.
