Hobgood Elementary PTO wants to welcome you to the 2008-2009 school year.

FUNDRAISERS

In order to provide our students and teachers with extras not included in the state budget, we must have fundraisers.. Every school is limited to two fundraisers each year.  With the money from these fundraisers, last year, we provided the school with 3 new Elmo’s (overhead projectors), a donation for the library, 2 teacher appreciation luncheons, $10 gift certificates for each of the staff for Christmas, a bus for the skate party, $100 for each classroom (33) to provide for small items needed for the year, we purchased 100  T-shirts, glow sticks for every student for Halloween, a new popcorn maker, tax accounting from an outside source, prizes for the Hispanic Flag contest, sponsored skate nights and has provided free coffee in the lobby every morning.  We also had a DJ party in October and a Mega Party, after testing, in April.  Every student participated in these events and, with your help, we are looking forward to similar expenses this year.

As permitted, we have two fund-raisers scheduled for this year.

  1. 1.      Smartcards sales.

Since we start school earlier than many other schools, we thought we would get a head start, so we could sell before the competition started school.  We have completed our first fundraiser and it looks like we will have a profit of about $1,700.  We will have a DJ Party (date to be announced) which every student will participate in. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO PARTICIPATED IN THIS SALE!   WE DID A GREAT JOB!

  1. 2.      Cookie Dough (same as last year).

We have made arrangements with the same company as we worked with last year.  They provided us with the Mega Party, which was extremely successful. Everyone attending had a Great! time.  (See photos near cafeteria) This company made some mistakes last year, and will give us 50% of the profits this year for compensation.  That would have been an extra $1,000 for our school last year, the Mega Party is also offered again. This fund-rasier is scheduled before the winter break. That way we can have the cookie dough and gifts for the holidays.

SKATENIGHTS

Our first skate night will be scheduled for August 14th.  We are currently working with them to set up a schedule for the year.  We will announce this schedule as soon as we know it.   We’ve found the best nights for skate nights are either Tuesday’s or Thursdays.  On Thursdays, we must have 50 skaters to break even, otherwise we must pay them the difference. We don’t usually have more than 30 skaters and that’s on a good night. If we skate on Tuesday’s we can share the night with another small school and not have a minimum requirement. I think we will try this a few times this year to see if we like it. There will be no skate night in November due to conflicting times with the basketball games. GO EXPLORERS!

PTO  MEETINGS

Since it is hard for parents to find the time to attend meetings, along with the meetings, there will be PTO minutes available at the office and emailed to the parents who have provided us with their email addresses.  If you would sign the parent sign in sheet or hit reply and say, “got it”, to acknowledge receipt of these minutes it will help us with our parental PTO participation requirements for the state. The meeting times will be posted shortly..

WE ARE OPEN FOR SUGGESTIONS AND COMMENTS. If you have any, please, leave a note addressed to the PTO at the office or email us at hobgoodpto@yahoo.com.

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT.

Thank You,
Linda Gavin, PTO President
