MCS’s 13th elementary school is slated to open by the 2014-15 school year. The school will be located off Mooreland Lane, east of Veterans Parkway and south of Franklin Road near the Blackman community. The two story school is designed for up to 1,000 students and will feature modern design and creativity.

A geotechnical investigation was completed and found the land suitable for geothermal heating and cooling.  John Pittard Elementary is also a geothermal school which saves thousands of dollars each year in electric bills.

Groundbreaking for the school is planned for Tuesday, June 25 at 4:00 p.m.

A school naming committee has been appointed by Board Chair Mary Wade and City Schools Director Dr. Linda Gilbert.  Names may be submitted to the committee through the Ask MCS tab on the MCS website or by calling 893-2313 (ask for Lisa Trail). The committee will present a slate of names to the City School Board for final approval.
