Title VI
Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 is a national law that protects persons from discrimination based on their race, color, or national orgin in programs and activities that receive Federal financial assistance.

There are many forms of illegal discrimination based on race, color, or national orgin that frequently limit the opportunity of minorities to gain equal access to services. A recipient of Federal financial assistance may not, based on race, color, or national orgin: (1) Deny services, financial aid or other benefits provided as a part of health or human service programs. (2) Provide a different service, financial aid or other benefit, or provide them in a different manner from those provide to others under the program. (3) Segregate or separately treat individuals in any matter related to the receipt of may service, financial aid or other benefit. Hotlines: 1-800-368-1019

Title IX
Prohibiting sex discrimination in educational institutions is Title IX of the Educational Amendments Act of 1972 (amending the Higher Education Act of 1965). This act is codified as Title 20, United States Code, Chapter 38, Sections 1681-1686. The act was also amended by the Civil Rights Restoration Act of 1987 ("Title IX").

The law states that "no person in the United States shall on the basis of sex be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance." The amendment in 1987 expanded the definition of program or activity to include all the operations of an educational institution, governmental that receives federal funds.
