Welcome from the PTA Presidents

Welcome Siegel Eagles! We hope all of you had a fun, exciting summer and are looking forward to another successful year at Erma Siegel Elementary. We would like to extend a warm welcome to everyone, in particular the new members of our Siegel family.

We would like to encourage you to join the PTA if you have not already done so. Membership is only $5 per family for the entire year. The national PTA motto is “Every Child, One Voice.” Together we can make a difference. As your PTA presidents for this year we encourage your support, ideas and participation.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to Edy Wilson, Kim Herring and their committee who made this year's Family Fun Night possible! Thank you for stepping up to the plate. We would also like to thank all of you who volunteered for this event. It would not have been possible without a lot of participation and hard work.

Our next fundraiser is Speed and Read. Speed and Read is a week of special events that will begin on Monday, September 10 and culminate on Friday, September 14 with our annual walk/run-a-thon. Packets will be coming home soon and will include information and collection envelopes for each child's pledge.

Sincerely,

Whitney and Greg Dotson

Sponsors Needed for Student/Faculty Directory

We are seeking sponsors for the annual Student/Faculty Directory published by the PTA. The cost for sponsorship is only $35. This directory is used by Siegel families all year, and is an invaluable resource. If you are interested in sponsoring, please send your $35 check (made payable to Erma Siegel PTA) and a business card to the address below by Friday, September 7.

Sponsors will have their business card and an appropriate acknowledgement displayed in the Directory. Feel free to include a note with your children's names and grades if you would like them listed as well. Mail to Kyna Petersen, 922 Shoreham Street, Murfreesboro, TN 37130, or send them to school in an envelope marked PTA Directory, to be placed in the PTA mailbox. Call 867-0800 any time before 9:30 pm if you have any questions.

Family Fun Night

What a great time we shared at Family Fun Night, otherwise known as “Beat the Heat!” How fortunate we and our children are to have such supportive relations among faculty, administration, parents and our community. In particular, we would like to thank all of our generous sponsors and volunteers, without whom this night would not have been possible. We can sum it up best with one word: WOW!

Special thanks to Dave Patton and Prudential for the tent, fans, tables, chairs and ice cream ** Rick Hardesty and Bunny Bread for the huge Titan slide and our hot dog buns ** The McIntyre Family and The Bounce Factory for the obstacle course and party package give-away (won by parent volunteer Sara Stockstill) ** Publix for cold drinks, chips, pencil holders, giveaways and coupons ** Wilson Bank & Trust for water bottles, the tent and bags to hold all of our goodies ** State Farm Agents David Wilson and Monte King for their generous donation to help cover our snow cones and other expenses ** First United Methodist Church for the donation of their snow cone machine and supplies ** Julie and Julio Orantes and The Chef Place for the scrumptious banana pudding ** Parent and DJ Extraordinaire, Sean Cole ** Tim Bowling and Hoover Paint for the popcorn machine and supplies ** Geoffrey Herring for the frisbees ** The National Guard for bringing the awesome tank, jeep and Mash Tent ** Dr. Matt Perkins for the Mash Tent supplies ** Wal-Mart (Debbie Murphy) and Sam*s Club (Pat Dickson) for the gift cards to help with prizes and supplies ** Red Robin for their mascot and balloons ** MTSU Athletic Department ** Bill Taylor Karate and their demonstration team ** Shoney*s for napkins and ketchup packs ** Allison and Tina Parker for the portable cooler ** Murfreesboro Fire Department Station 7 ** Siegel Station EMS ** Kyle Evans and the Murfreesboro Police ** Juan and Lulu Vargas for making our signs ** Parent Volunteer Coordinators for the telephone calls, and parent volunteers for their time and smiling faces ** Teacher volunteers, especially those that braved the dunk tank: Ms. Orcutt, Ms. Parsons, Ms. Lunte, Mrs. Pepper, Mrs. Pepelea, and Ms. Kelley ** PTA Board for all of their hard work cooking hot dogs and handling drinks ** Mrs. Tuckson, Mrs. Stracener, Mrs. Scheele and Mr. Khamphao for all of their guidance and hard work.

From the Mash Tent to the Glamour Nails, from the Party Bus, Snow Cones, and Inflatables to the Pop Bottle Ring Toss, we truly did “Beat the Heat” and enjoyed a great afternoon of fellowship! Thanks again to everyone, from your Family Fun Night Coordinators: Cindy Bridges, Kim Herring, Melissa Neff, Joy Walden and Edy Wilson.
