The Total Solar Eclipse is a once-in-a-lifetime event and we are so excited to share it with our students.  Parents have the option for their child to remain in the classroom during the eclipse and participate in the live streaming option.  If parents choose this option, teachers are prepared to engage students in indoor learning centers which may include live streaming of the eclipse.

A few quick answers:

DO STUDENTS HAVE TO PARTICIPATE IN OUTSIDE ACTIVITIES?

  • Children are not required to participate in outside activities during the eclipse.  If parents do not sign the permission form for their child, students they will stay inside the building and watch the eclipse being live-streamed as well as participate in instructional activities.

EXCUSED OR UNEXCUSED?

  • Monday is part of the 180 day school calendar for students.
  • Parents have the choice of their child not going outside to participate in the event and simply watching it on television and doing activities inside the building.
  • If parents are simply keeping their child at home, the absence will be unexcused.
  • If parents are taking their children to an organized event—Boy Scouts, Stones River Battlefield, science centers, MTSU, etc.–and they bring proof of that through a program, signature, etc., the absence will be excused.

GLASSES—WHAT?  HOW?

HOW CAN THE ECLILPSE BE VIEWED FROM INSIDE THE SCHOOLS?

CAN FAMILIES COME?

  • Family members of students are welcome.  Please sign in at the front desk.  Unfortunately, we will most likely not have enough glasses for our guests. Please check with your school/classroom teacher to find the time best suited to join your child’s class.

We encourage parents to discuss the eclipse with children over the weekend and review the guidelines of how to experience the eclipse.

Our students will remember this event for the rest of their lives and we are excited about Monday.
