Dr. Linda Arms Gilbert served Murfreesboro City Schools and the community with compassion and fervor. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother and educator and has left a legacy of compassion and benevolence for children. Her mantra was caring for and educating the “Whole Child” and those of us who had the privilege of working with her, knew exactly what she meant.
Dr. Gilbert received numerous awards throughout her teaching career including the Tennessee Teacher of the Year and Tennessee Superintendent of the Year. However, the awards did not define her, the love of education, her family and of her beloved Murfreesboro City Schools was her passion.
We are grateful for the many prayers, texts, calls and emails that have been sent to the MCS family. We are honored that Dr. Gilbert’s family has asked for donations to be made to the CHOW Programs and Bob the Book Bus in lieu of flowers. Donations can be sent to The City Schools Foundation, 2552 South Church Street, Murfreesboro, TN 37127 or by using the PayPal link. The Foundation will establish a fund specifically for these donations.
In the words of Dr. Gilbert – “Murfreesboro City Schools exists because it is willing to prepare children for 2050 instead of 1950. Murfreesboro City Schools exists because it is willing to risk, to innovate, and to lead. That’s what a great school district does.”
