Day 1

We spent some time learning about the Yeti, otherwise known as the abominable snowman. This required taking a trip to the Himalayan mountains near Nepal. We looked this up on a map and read a book on Mt. Everest, the tallest mountain in the world.

The site above allows you to view Mt. Everest with 360 degree capabilities, full-screen. Very cool...and beautiful!

Day 2

Today we spent time learning the basic customary units of measurement. We wanted to be able to use this information to best gauge the Yeti’s height, should we be fortunate enough to see the mysterious beast in person (on this imaginary trip). No plans are being made to capture him/her, despite a few brave souls that said they were willing and able to do so, if needed.

Day 3

Today we found a large, unexplained footprint in the snow. This was in the Himalayan region between Tibet and Nepal, where sightings are most often reported. The wind was blowing around hard, eliminating any other evidence of footprints besides one right foot mark. This came at a surprise as no one had measuring tools on them. Fortunately, one student had a yellow unsharpened pencil on him. Using the pencil, the foot was exactly two pencils long. Could this be the footstep of the great Yeti? Back to our warm headquarters to find out. The team broke up into 7 groups, and they got to work re-creating the possible creature.

Group 1: Create the head and neck

Group 2: Create the left arm

Group 3: Create the right arm

Group 4: Create the body/torso

Group 5: Create the left leg

Group 6: Create the right leg

Early group finishers then picked up the following measurements:

right foot

left foot

right hand

left hand

Come back shortly for our pictures and information learned. We may include video links on this as well.
