Discovery School at Bellwood scored a consecutive third place win in this year’s Music City BEST robotics competition and has advanced to the South’s BEST Championship at Auburn University.

The team earned high marks in several areas including fifth place robot, first place marketing presentation, best middle school robot, most photogenic robot and best use of CAD technology and programming, which led to their third place overall win.

16 Middle Tennessee teams participated in this year’s “Pay Dirt” themed tournament where they were required to build a robot with the ability to complete mining tasks. The Discovery School was the only elementary school competitor. The team completed over 100 hours of work including time after school, on weekends and during fall break to design, program and prepare for the competition.

Students will compete against 55 teams from five surrounding states at the South’s BEST Regional Robotics Championship on the campus of Auburn University December 5-6.

The BEST competition aims to increase interest in science, technology, mathematics and engineering careers.
