African American art, cuisine and much more will be featured Thursday, Jan. 29, at 4 p.m., as Murfreesboro City Schools and Patterson Park Community Center celebrate The African American Journey at Patterson Park Community Center, 521 Mercury Blvd.
The free celebration will recognize several aspects of African American history and culture through song, interpretative dance, artistic expression, acclaimed speakers, and interactive exhibits.
State Representative Brenda Gilmore is slated to speak to the crowd and several participants from The Wisdom of the Elders genealogy and research program will display artwork and share their stories and insights with visitors.
In addition to the live performances and art, the event will include a soul food tasting, community resource and career fair, and a children’s activity center featuring face painting, games and a bounce center.
