Cason Lane Academy is a K-6 school with a population of approximately 900 students. Each child receives instruction in the required Tennessee curriculum in all subject areas. They also participate in physical education, computer lab, art, vocal music, piano keyboarding and Spanish. The Media Center, Guidance services and I-OPPT round out the program.

CLA is a Paideia school. Paideia is a Greek word meaning "the upbringing of the child". The Paideia philosophy is based on specific principles that apply to all children. A central belief is that all children can learn and deserve the same quality as well as quantity of schooling. This philosophy emphasizes a comprehensive approach to education with specific objectives, methods, and pupil performance standards. A combination of didactic/lecture, academic coaching/tutor, seminar/creative discussion is used.
1. Didactic/Lecture exposes all students to a common base of knowledge and introduces them to facts.
2. Coaching/Tutoring provides all students with hands on experiences individually or in small groups under the direction of a teacher to apply skills and use facts learned in didactic instruction.
3. Seminar/Creative Discussion allows all students to apply knowledge and skills therefore moving into higher order thinking such as synthesizing, evaluation and analyzing.
