Students Perform for Publix
Bradley Academy theatre students performed November 18, 2008 at Publix on S.
Rutherford. The students prepared for  the event by practicing in found space. Found space is where we pick  an odd floor area to perform and adjust the performance to fill the space.  Students put on such an amazing performancethat the audience was sad to see it end!.

Indian Dancers, Drummers and Historian from Global Education Visit Bradley
In September, in cooperation with the Value Plus Grant from the Tennessee Arts Commission, Bradley Arts Academy interacted with Lakota Native Americans.  Students at all grade levels interacted with a group of performers, a drum instructor, and Ellen Gilbert’s exhibit from the Global Education Center in Nashville.  Older students participated in drum classes, while students from kindergarten, first, second and third grade studied the Lakota Native American culture in depth as they explored the items in the exhibit and learned from Ms. Gilbert’s presentation.   The younger students were able to play drums, wear native costumes, and handle artifacts from the exhibit.

We have opened the new Climbing Wall at Bradley Academy provided through a grant from the General Mills Foundation.   This wall has been great fro helping our students develop their upper body strength, coordination and endurance.  By developing these skills, our students are also becoming more self-confident and imaginative.  “They might become professional climbers on Mount Everest and when they come back down, they can share the idea that they can do anything if they put their minds to it and try.  Remember, when at Bradley, no height is beyond our reach!”

Winners in the Murfreesboro City Art Show
Christy Le and Allyson Briggs are a couple of very happy students at Bradley Arts Academy because they are both winners in the Murfreesboro City Hall Art Show.  Christy Le's bowl of fruit using watercolor took second place in the 5th grade division and Allyson Briggs' portrait of the teacher took 1st place in the 4th grade division.  Art teacher, Paulette Stover, submitted 14 pieces in total: two at each grade level.  The art exhibit was available for viewing from October through November 11, and was quite good, according to Mrs. Stover.  All city schools participated providing a great variety of original art pieces, with most schools placing.  Bradley participates in several shows annually, and hosts one for the district in May each year.

Bruning Foundation Grant Awarded to Luke Hill
This fall, a $5,000 Bruning Foundation Grant  was awarded to instrumental music teacher, Luke Hill at Bradley Arts Academy for the purchase of new band instruments.  So far with the funds awarded in the grant, we have purchased one new tuba as well as a new baritone.  The tuba is the first tuba that the Bradley Band has ever owned.  The addition of a tuba and baritone will greatly help in filling up the band sound and give at least one student the chance to specialize on an instrument that statistically has a lot of college scholarship opportunities, if pursued.  The baritone will give the beginner a chance to play on a quality instrument that is well needed in not only the Bradley Band, but also the band programs we feed.  We will also be purchasing a xylophone for Bradley Academy, another first!
