Black Fox Elementary recently broke ground with a $2.2 million expansion project which includes ten additional classrooms, storage and parking. The project is estimated to be completed this fall and will add capacity for up to 1,000 students.

This is the first major addition for Black Fox Elementary since it was opened in 1990. The expansion includes 15,039 square feet bring the total of the school to 122,539 square feet. Six classrooms will be added to the East side of the building, nearest Kensington Drive, and four classrooms will be added to the West side.

“We are excited to see the completion of this renovation,” says Joe Thompson, Black Fox principal. “The school’s core was initially built to accommodate 1,000 students so this project just makes sense. The residential area around us is growing and we want to be able to welcome new students to our school.”

Black Fox is located at 1753 South Rutherford Blvd. The school currently has an enrollment of 812 students and was recently recognized with the Value Added Achievement Award.

Johnson + Bailey Architects has designed the project, with Romach, Inc as the general contractor.
